From 1980 to as late as August 1987, the 'CH' wagons were re-coded NHEF.
Of the 15 NHEF’s which were condemned by Mid 1982, 11 were restored to traffic by December 1983.
In August 1983, 4 hoppers were re-coded NHZF for Sand & Gravel Traffic running from Emu Plains and Kiama for the Albion Reid Sidings at Enfield North & Wolli Creek. By October 1987, all had resorted to Coal Traffic.
In the late 1990's, the NHEF's were used to transport sandstone slurry from Rozelle to the Ropes Creek Branchline at St Marys.
Currently there are still 60 NHEF’s listed on the books.
On Track Models produces 2 packs of 4 models based on these wagons.
